Looking, Seeing, Drawing At The Table
My work examines drawing as a collective expression of material awareness. As part of my experiential approach to drawing, I invite members of the public to sit and draw my growing collection of gleaned coastal waste.
The result is a pictorial archive of 20 community responses, selected and curated with permission to share with further audiences, who, in turn, become part of this collaborative and transformative act of shared creation, inspired by close engagement with the material journey of each object drawn.
Individually, each work offers a different visual perspective on a collection of trash we throw away.
But together, by communally confronting the abject/object, each participant becomes a shared witness to notions of object agency, nature/culture entanglements, and material stewardship.
So, with this work, I ask, can a shared social practice of drawing-as-seeing offer momentary healing to the vast nature/culture disconnect we experience every day?
